Enforcement issues slow Sutter County medical marijuana ordinance

A proposed urgency ordinance that would significantly tighten restrictions on growing medical marijuana in Sutter County failed to pass a Board of Supervisors vote amid concerns that it lacked any methods of enforcement.

Before a standing-room-only audience Tuesday night, the board heard 31 comments from a public that was split almost exactly down the middle in support or opposition to the ordinance, which would have banned all outdoor cultivation of the plant and restrict indoor gardens to 14 plants

Sutter Supes to vote on pot ban update Tuesday

Sutter County's medical marijuana growing ordinance could soon become considerably more strict.

The Board of Supervisors will vote Tuesday on an urgency update to the ordinance it passed in 2013 that would ban outdoor cultivation completely and significantly reduce the scope of indoor gardens.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the Board of Supervisors chambers, 466 Second St., Yuba City.

Besides banning outdoor cultivation, the updated ordinance would limit the amount of plants that could be grown indoors to 14.

Yuba County ed board backs pot restrictions

Yuba County's tight marijuana cultivation restrictions were unanimously endorsed this week by the county Board of Education.
Board trustees voted 5-0 Wednesday to approve supporting the ordinance approved last year by the Board of Supervisors. The matter was brought forward by board President Eva Teagarden

Pot proponents scorn Yuba County supervisors

Four of five Yuba County supervisors walked out of their board chambers Tuesday morning amid a barrage of vitriolic catcalls from marijuana supporters. They returned to send two cannabis-related initiatives to the voters.

As expected, supervisors unanimously approved a consent agenda that included consolidating separate marijuana cultivation and dispensary initiatives with the June primary election. Matters on the consent agenda include items approved en masse.

California DOJ investigating NET-5 after agent's arrest

The California Department of Justice is investigating the Yuba-Sutter drug and gang task force, NET-5, following the arrest of one of its agents.
Sutter County District Attorney Amanda Hopper announced last week the task force would be audited by an outside agency following the arrest of local drug agent Christopher "Mark" Heath.
Heath, a Yuba County sheriff's deputy assigned to NET-5 for three years, was arrested on suspicion of trafficking 247 pounds of marijuana across the country.

Sheriff's deputy among those arrested in $2M pot bust

Three California men, including a sheriff's deputy, are under arrest after a major marijuana bust in York County, according to law enforcement officials.
YORK COUNTY, Pa. —Three California men, including a sheriff's deputy, are under arrest after a major marijuana bust in York County, according to law enforcement officials

The men, Ryan Falsone, Tyler Long and Christopher Heath, a California sheriff's deputy, were arrested on Dec. 28, York County District Attorney Tom Kearney announced at a news conference Monday morning in Penn Township.

Calif. deputy arrested in York County on drug charges

York County police officers recently arrested a vacationing California sheriff's deputy, alleging he'd driven more than 120 pounds of marijuana across the country to sell it in central Pennsylvania.

Christopher Mark Heath, 37, of the Yuba County Sheriff's Department, is charged along with Tyler Neil Long, 31, and Ryan Jay Falsone, 27, with one felony count each of selling drugs, conspiracy to sell drugs and possession of drugs with the intent to sell them, according to charging documents filed Tuesday.

Drug task force agent suspected of illegally transporting 200 pounds of pot

A Yuba-Sutter drug task force agent is suspected of illegally transporting 200 pounds of marijuana while on vacation in Pennsylvania.
Officials said Yuba County sheriff's Deputy Christopher "Mark" Heath, 37, was arrested Monday by the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit in York, Pa., on suspicion of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance, possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance.

Yuba County Sheriff's deputy arrested on drug charges in Pennsylvania

A Yuba County Sheriff’s deputy is in custody in Pennsylvania suspected of transporting and delivering a controlled substance across state lines.

Christopher Heath, 37, is facing charges of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance, possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, and delivery of a controlled substance. Authorities with the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement agency said Heath was detained after being suspected of transporting marijuana in York County while on vacation from his job with the Yuba County Sheriff.

Meridian pot robbery ends in 4 arrests

Four people were arrested soon after a Meridian man told authorities he was pistol-whipped and robbed of a 15-pound tote of marijuana just after 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sutter County Sheriff J. Paul Parker said.
A pistol and a tote of marijuana were discovered in suspect vehicles after one of the cars crashed into a pole while attempting flee from officers off Highway 20 east of Yuba City, Parker said.
